Hi! I’m Heather Elyse Head. I have been around folk art pottery for most of my life, because I grew up in the town of Lula, GA next to Gillsville, GA, which boasts a large number of folk potters with a connection to pottery for multiple generations. My own daughter will be considered a 12th generation potter, if she decides to make pottery her career.
My grandfather-in-law, Billy Joe Craven, has been a huge inspiration to me and has taught me so much about the process of making pottery. His knowledge and experience has given me the confidence to pursue a lifelong dream of being an artist.
Dal Burtchaell has been an amazing source of pottery knowledge and has also been a big help to me. As his neighbor, I am constantly asking for his opinion on different pottery techniques.
I started working at Craven Pottery in 2015. Then, I finally became serious about making my own folk art shortly after that, but I have dabbled in art and handmade items since 2006.
